Every year, lives are needlessly lost on our roadways because of alcohol, drugs and distracted-impaired driving. These are avoidable tragedies that leave scars on our families, schools, and communities.
During Students Against Impaired Driving Day we ask that you make known your commitment to preventing impaired driving. We remember the victims and honour their memory by making the responsible decision to not be impaired while driving and ensuring that others do the same.

Is to encourage schools, businesses and community organizations to proclaim, promote. and participate in reducing the tragedies caused by impaired and distracted driving by sending a positive message to the their students, patrons and members to never drive impaired or ride with an impaired driver.

Who can participate:
Any school-based OSAID club, Students Council, Prom Committee, Leadership Class, or any School-approved group.
Eligibility
All Participating school groups must complete a minimum of the following three activities to be eligible to win any award.

A schools will be eligible to win this prize if they are participating in SAID Day and have completed the minimum of three activities. *
BEST NEW/CREATIVE IDEA AWARD
$500
A school will be eligible to win this prize if they have completed the minimum three activities* and implemented a new and creative way to promote SAID Day.
Best Exceptional Overall Award
2 X $500
Two school will be eligible to win this prize if they have completed the minimum three activities and have done exceptional work in promoting impaired driving awareness at their schools by doing at least one of the following activities.

WHAT IS IMPAIRED DRIVING?
Alcohol, drugs, distraction and excessive speed will impair your ability to drive.
What is the message you want to send?
PROCLAIM:
Impaired driving is the leading criminal cause of death and injury in Canada.
PROMOTE:
If you help to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving on SAID Day you will be helping to reduce preventable death and injury in your community.
PARTICIPATE:
Lead by example. Never drive or ride with an impaired or distracted driver.
PLAN:
Always plan ahead. Designate a driver who is not impaired and arrange for an alternate way home just in case.
SPEAK:
Talk to your friends and loved ones and remind them how important it is to you that they never drive impaired.
OPTIONS:
If you are hosting a party, always offer non-alcoholic drinks for guests.
REPORT:
If you see and suspect an impaired driver on the road, notify law enforcement immediately. Call 911.
INTERVENE:
If you know someone who is impaired and is about to drive, ask them politely not to drive, and suggest some alternatives.
